Methodology: comparable questions, carrier-specific answers

This baseline starts with five operating questions that commonly matter to a big-and-bulky shipment: appointment or notice, liftgate or special unloading, residential or limited access, redelivery, and overlength. It then records the corresponding entry in each carrier's current reviewed public guide. The monitor does not rewrite those entries into one supposedly universal service or price.

  1. Source selection: Only current official ODFL, XPO, and NMFTA pages or publications are used.
  2. Extraction: Carrier name, publication, effective date, service label, item, unit, bands, public list amount, scope note, source locator, and review date are recorded.
  3. Interpretation: Long tariff provisions are summarized in original language. Item numbers and short service names remain visible so an operator can verify the source.
  4. No normalization: The tool does not calculate a shipment charge, compare contracted pricing, or declare a cheapest carrier.
  5. Change control: August 11, 2026 is the first dated baseline. A later review must compare the new official publication with this baseline before describing any row as changed or unchanged.
Classification watch is separate

NMFTA's public docket is included as the official place to watch current NMFC proposals and dispositions. It is not used as a source for ODFL or XPO accessorial prices. NMFTA also states that NMFC materials are protected by copyright and that it publicly posts only the most current documents, so this page links to the docket and does not mirror the NMFC.

How to use the exported review

Treat the copy or CSV as a question list for rating, tendering, and invoice review. Attach the applicable source version and the shipment evidence that answered each question: packed dimensions, weight, destination type, equipment needs, appointment instructions, delivery attempt history, and the agreement used to rate the load. A checked box is not proof that a charge applies.

Questions operators ask

Are these the charges my company will pay?

Not necessarily. The page shows public list-tariff entries from dated carrier publications. A negotiated agreement, an exception, shipment facts, geography, or a newer publication can produce a different applicable charge.

Why does the monitor not calculate a cheapest carrier?

The entries are not normalized quotes. The carriers use different item names, bands, units, definitions, and governing conditions. Comparing one printed amount without the shipment and agreement would create false precision.

Does selecting a service mean it definitely applies?

No. The checklist identifies a question to resolve. The governing tariff, the carrier, and the shipment record determine whether a service or charge applies.

What does baseline mean?

This first edition records the publications reviewed on August 11, 2026. It does not claim that an entry increased, decreased, or stayed unchanged. Those labels require a later publication-to-baseline comparison.

Does this monitor assign freight class?

No. NMFC classification and carrier accessorial charges are related operational inputs but are not interchangeable. This tool does not classify a commodity, calculate density, or produce a rate.
